Tomari Nuclear Plant To End Mox Program
Hokkaido Electric, owner of the Tomari Nuclear plant has announced they will end their pursuit to run MOX (Mixed Oxide plutonium fuel) in reactor #3.
Hokkaido was caught up in the country-wide scandal where power companies were caught faking public support for MOX fuel programs. Our records show that no MOX fuel has been delivered to Tomari to date. There was a planned May 2011 shipment to Japan that may have been going to carry Tomari’s MOX assemblies. That shipment was cancelled after the Fukushima Daiichi disaster.
Executives involved in the scandal received temporary pay cuts, none were fired for their involvement in the scandal.
