New Zealand Birds May Be Impacted By Fukushima

Muttonbirds in New Zealand have been showing up in fewer numbers and in poor condition. The birds nest in New Zealand after leaving Japan including areas near the plant. Only two thirds the normal numbers showed up this year. Those that did had old feathers and other signs of not thriving. Researchers said it may take another season to get a better understanding of the potential impact on bird numbers and to rule out other causes.
