Fuel Assembly Removed From Daiichi Unit 4 Fuel Pool

TEPCO has removed the first unused fuel assembly. Kyodo reported it about 8 hours ago. The second assembly should be moved on the 19th JST. From tweets by worker at Daiichi, Happy11311, conditions at the plant have been extremely hot in recent days. The unused assemblies will be transported by cask to the common pool for inspection for corrosion to give an idea about conditions in the pool. This should help workers determine a plan for eventually removing all the fuel. (photo via Ex-SKF)
