Sandy To Make Landfall Around Atlantic City NJ

Sandy is expected to make landfall around Atlantic City NJ. This puts Oyster Creek, Salem and Peach Bottom nuclear plants in the direct path of Hurricane Sandy.

We will continue to try to find out specific information about these plants but the NRC has not updated anything on the reactor status or events pages all weekend.

Outer bands are already hitting New Jersey and a high storm surge is expected. The national guard has been mobilized in NJ. Lower areas have ordered evacuations already.  NJ transit has shut down and storm surge is expected into harbors and rivers. This is a concern for the safety of the nuclear plants in Sandy’s path, the storm surge itself and the high tides already there.
