Radioactive Wildlife Found In Fukushima
The Japan Ministry of Health has conducted testing on wildlife that are commonly hunted in Fukushima. Pheasants, ducks, wild boar and bears all were found with internal radiation contamination high enough their meat would not pass the radiation limits on food.
- Bears tested had a combined cesium level of 170 bq/kg in one, 460 bq/kg in the other.
- Wild boar tested had combined cesium levels of between 79 to 1900 bq.kg. 13 boar were tested and all were contaminated.
- Pheasants had combined cesium levels of 37 to 370 bq/kg. 8 pheasants were tested and all were contaminated.
- Ducks had combined cesium levels of 17 to 4000 bq/kg. 4 ducks were tested and all were contaminated.
The test results in Japanese can be found here. English translations are posted below.
The government has also issued a large Dec2012EmbargoedFoods from around Tohoku. This includes a large and growing list of freshwater fish from many rivers in the region. The breadth of species and locations indicate a considerable problem.
