KEPCO To Take Delivery Of MOX Fuel

KEPCO will be receiving a shipment of MOX fuel from France around April. What is not clear is what they intend to do with it. They have run MOX in the past at the Takahama nuclear plant they own. Unit 4 at Takahama has used MOX in the past. NHK reports that local consent would be required but it does not say how local consent would be obtained. For the restart of Oi the mayor and local assembly gave approval rather than a vote of the public.

KEPCO won’t say if the fuel will be used or not or why they decided to accept shipment now. Many public concerns linger regarding the MOX used at unit 3 Fukushima Daiichi and if it contributed to the severity of the meltdown or lingering higher radiation levels at the unit.
