TEPCO Finishes Defueling Building On Unit 4, Plans To Remove Fuel In June
TEPCO has announced the completion of the frame for the unit 4 defueling building. The handout shows at least some of the outer steel skin is also installed. TEPCO also made the unusual statement that they would begin removing fuel next month.
That may be premature as the overhead cranes still need to be installed and the process for fuel removal tested. Concerns about the defueling building and the spent fuel pool’s ability to bear the weight of the fuel casks remains a worry that TEPCO has yet to publicly address. A typical spent fuel cask weighs 25 tons
