TEPCO Withholds Radiation Data For Unit 2

7 days ago TEPCO took radiation readings along with temperature readings inside unit 2. This was part of an effort to try to look inside the reactor vessel pedestal. The radiation readings were marked as “evaluating” and not given. They have since done a second effort to look in the containment structure and released a video of the work. These critical radiation readings have not been disclosed and no reason given for such a delay. These radiation readings could indicate important information about the condition of the melted fuel and its location.

This is unusual compared to other efforts to scope unit 2 or unit 1 where radiation readings were given along with the other data. Why TEPCO chooses now to not publicly disclose critical information not only raises concerns about TEPCO’s credibility but what is going on inside unit 2. TEPCO needs to release this data publicly and if they continue the refuse the NRA should compel TEPCO to make this important information public.
