ALPS Runs Then Dies, Workers Forgot A Rubber Mat Inside Tank
ALPS restarted briefly then shut down over the the weekend. The cause? Workers left a rubber mat used to give ladders traction inside the treatment tank. The C system of Alps ran for about a day starting Friday, processing about 100 tons of water before failing.
TEPCO and the government think they are capable of safely operating a nuclear plant and have allowed the company to file an application to restart two of their reactors at Kashiwazaki Karwia. Yet they can’t find a way to manage processes so things like the mat in the tank don’t happen over and over again.
