Tokyo Suburb To Be Decontaminated, 70% Of Town Marked For Clean Up

Toride City, a suburb of Tokyo was declared in need of decontamination after 70% of the city was found to potentially be contaminated above allowable levels. Surveys are being conducted to determine what homes require decontamination. Hot spots were found around Chiba, also considered to be a suburban part of Tokyo, requiring response from the government to do clean up there.

PM Abe and other government officials have insisted Tokyo is not contaminated at all and totally safe as they promoted the Olympic bid.
“It has never done and will never do any damage to Tokyo,” Abe said. “It poses no problem whatsoever. … There are no health-related problems until now, nor will there be in the future. I make the statement to you in the most emphatic and unequivocal way.”
