First Implementation Of Ice Wall Will Allow Emptying Of Highly Contaminated Trench Water

FrozenWallTests_131128_04NHK reports that the test operation of the ice wall technology done earlier in December will enable them to isolate a trench that has been leaking highly contaminated water out to sea. Earlier TEPCO reporting showed that the ice wall produced at the end of the trench froze the space in the trench including inside pipes.

The trench water will be stored onsite with other contaminated water. Once the trench is emptied they should be able to determine if they have blocked the leak in that area entirely or not.
