TEPCO Could Begin Dumping Bypass Water As Early As May 20th

TEPCO announced they could begin dumping bypass well water into the sea as early as May 20th. The wells have been found to have tritium in them including one well with readings near or over the limit set to allow water to be dumped into the sea. TEPCO no longer tests this water for cesium levels but earlier testing of these wells found small amounts of cesium in the bypass water.

A third party is supposedly testing this water to assure fishing groups it doesn’t exceed the contamination levels set in their agreement. No information about the third party or third party readings have been published anywhere.

The well with the highest contamination levels appears to be impacted in part by the H4 tank farm leak.
