NRA Discovers Major Radioactive Tank Leak At Fukushima Daiichi

TEPCO missed it but NRA officials that were at the plant found a 4 ton leak of radioactive water. Not only did the water leak out of a set of tanks, it leaked out of the barrier intended to contain it. Apparently a drain valve was left open on the barrier. This is how the first major tank leak at the H4 tank farm happened. TEPCO had insisted they cleaned up their act and had made sure drain valves for tank barriers wouldn’t be left open anymore.

This new leak has contaminated nearby soil. TEPCO is taking soil samples to determine how the water may have migrated into the soil. The water contains 9,800 bq/liter of beta radiation. It was not stated what other contaminants or the levels were in the water.
