Frustration Reigns Around WIPP Incident
Frustration seems to be the general response by both government officials and the public regarding WIPP and the response by DOE. A legislative meeting held last week included the frustration of senators who felt the effort to find the root cause of the explosion has dragged on without answers.
The public showed their frustration at the most recent town hall meeting. DOE representatives stated they will not give the public any information without first sending it to the Washington DC DOE office for prior approval. This flies in the face of previous claims of transparency and informing the public by these same DOE officials. Multiple times information was refused to be disclosed claiming needing approval for even simple information where previous reports of the same information had been made public. By the end of the meeting the non answers and outright refusals to even give basic information to the public caused some in attendance in the room and online to express their frustration. Towards the end of the video, local residents expressed their frustration. The meeting itself contained a large amount of pointless rehashing then was cut short before public questions could be asked claiming they were out of time. The meeting was abruptly ended.
Officials dealing with DOE are being stalled, a number of projects toward recovery are being delayed as they find the conditions more challenging than expected and answers are in short supply.
