Fukushima Groundwater Contamination Rises To Nearly Double Previous Reading

Seafront well 1-6 began to rise again after it had begun to drop after the most recent typhoon. It nearly doubled, from 1.4 million bq/liter of beta radiation on the 23rd up to 2.5 million bq/liter on the 27th. TEPCO gave no reason for the jump.

This grouping of monitoring wells is assumed to be located in the path of the underground plume of highly contaminated water from unit 1. They are also located near the trench full of contaminated water near unit 2’s intake canal.

These ongoing findings of contamination spikes add to the understanding of how the damaged reactors are leaking. They also show how little TEPCO actually knows or admits about the extent of those leaks.
