2nd Mobile Strontium 90 Filter System In Service At Fukushima Daiichi
A second mobile strontium 90 filtration system is in service at Fukushima Daiichi after initial testing. The portable system housed in modified shipping containers are being used to filter out strontium 90 from contaminated water sitting in tanks. The systems can remove most of the strontium 90 from the contaminated water. This considerably reduces this type of contamination and further reduces some of the risk factors involving the massive tank farms on site.
TEPCO has not reported how much of the contaminated water in tanks has been treated to date by the mobile systems.
