Fukushima Unit 2 Muon Scan Scheduled For May 2015
IRID is reporting that the muon scan of unit 2 at Fukushima Daiichi will begin around May 10th of 2015. The scan of unit 1 is scheduled to begin today after equipment was brought on sight and installed earlier in the month. The scans hope to determine if any fuel remains in the reactor vessels. IRID also reports that the consider the combination of the muon scans and the upcoming robot inspections of the containment vessels to be companion work. The robots are considered the method to check for fuel in the lower containment structure while the muon scans are expected to confirm the existence of any fuel in the reactor vessels.
