Lasers Being Researched For Use At Fukushima Daiichi
GE-Hitachi and Sugino Machine signed a deal to work on research for creating lasers to be used for melted fuel removal at Fukushima Daiichi. Sugino Machine is already working on remote controlled equipment that can work in high radiation environments. The two companies working with JAEA hope to develop a small remote controlled laser that can be put into small tight locations to cut out melted fuel.
At least some of the research work will take place at the new Fukushima “Naraha Remote Technology Development Center” operated by JAEA.
