TEPCO To Finish Closing Sea Wall By End Of October

fukushima_daiichi_steel_piling_wallTEPCO announced the timeline to close the steel piling sea wall. This wall has been under construction for years. An opening was left at one end to allow groundwater to escape the reactor building area. Now that TEPCO has the frozen wall mostly operational and a plan to remove the subdrain pit water they will finally close this gap in the contaminated water containment efforts. It will take time and more diverse monitoring to fully understand if these tactics are working. All of this effort also has the potential for unforeseen consequences or water leaking through other routes.
