Fukushima Unit 1 Discharge Canal Begins Filtration

The discharge canal of unit 1 has been the site of ongoing high levels of contamination since the initial disaster. TEPCO began operating a portable filtration system on the canal on November 27th. This project is of interest as it had not been announced to the public prior to implementation. There have been plans in the works to install such systems to filter the port water, discharge canals were not mentioned in that preparation.

TEPCO did not say if they would give specific reports on the filtration performance but they have been reporting the radiation levels of the discharge canal roughly twice a week.
