3 TEPCO Execs Indicted On Criminal Negligence Charges
Three TEPCO executives were successfully indicted on Monday in Tokyo.
The three are
Tsunehisa Katsumata, 75, chairman of TEPCO at the time
Sakae Muto, 65, and Ichiro Takekuro, 69, both former vice presidents
Unfortunately none were arrested after the indictment and the first trial date has not yet been set. The indictments come after a years long struggle by a citizens group to force the charges through an existing legal maneuver after Tokyo prosecutors failed to do so.
The trial could bring to light evidence from the disaster that has not been made public. The charges involve criminal negligence where people were injured or died from the negligence. Criminal negligence charges have been used for other much smaller scale acts where people were injured or died due to a company’s acts.
