TEPCO And NRA Agree On Fukushima Frozen Wall Plan

ventvalvesTEPCO and NRA have come to an agreement to being operation of the frozen wall. TEPCO wanted to freeze the land side first, NRA the seaside first. NRA’s concern was that TEPCO’s method could cause groundwater levels to drop too fast causing leaks of highly contaminated water from the reactor buildings.

TEPCO said they would make adjustments to deal with dropping groundwater levels but the NRA plan could cause the opposite problem based on our research. The closure of the steel piling sea wall caused groundwater to increase around the plant to the point it damaged the wall. This new plan could potentially cause rising groundwater around the reactor blocks and new unforeseen consequences.

The entire freezing of one side of the wall will take 8 months in TEPCO’s estimation. We will be tracking plant data to look for any new changes as they begin the process to freeze the wall sections.
