Scorpion Enters Fukushima Unit 2
The Scorpion robot entered Fukushima unit 2 containment today and sent back a set of images.
TEPCO’s reporting was scant with two images from the pedestal, brief descriptions of some conditions and no other data. No radiation readings were provided. They did not mention how long the robot was inside containment or if it was successfully removed.
They did confirm damage to the pedestal grating already seen on the scope camera images. Damage to the end of the CRD rail inside the pedestal was also confirmed. This damage would have made it impossible for Scorpion to safely enter the pedestal further.
The images show the same pedestal grating seen in the scope images with the melted section of grating seen in the background.
