Court Finds TEPCO & Japan Government Guilty In Fukushima Disaster
A group of evacuees had sued both TEPCO and the Japanese government in Maebashi District Court. The ruling is the first clear legal condemnation of both parties for their part in the 2011 nuclear disaster.
The court case by a group of evacuees involved the loss of home communities, psychological stress and the evacuation from their homes. The court considered potential disaster estimates done by both the government and TEPCO in the years before the disaster proved that they knew the possibility for a major disaster
If this ruling stands it could open the way for more evacuee lawsuits and even wider legal action. Problems such as loss of business revenue, contamination of the environment and private property all could potentially use this court case as legal precedence.
