Extremely Strong Typhoon Headed For Fukushima Daiichi
An extremely strong typhoon is headed directly at Fukushima Daiichi. Typhoon Hagibis is currently making landfall near Tokyo and Chiba prefecture. The eye of the storm should pass near or directly over Fukushima Daiichi in the early morning hours of Sunday morning JST.
Strong winds, heavy rains and storm surges are expected along the coast of Honshu including the area of the disaster site. The hurricane map below was reported by NHK about 8:40pm CST. The two images below the map are screen shots of the on site webcams at Fukushima Daiichi, taken roughly the same time as the NHK report came out. The images show that cranes were already grounded in anticipation of the storm. Heavy rains and cloud cover partially block the view.
