Fukushima Unit 1 Containment Inspection Prep Work Completed

TEPCO announced that work to prepare unit 1 for a new containment inspection has been completed. This work has been on hold for months after efforts to cut a hole in a hatch door caused radiation levels inside containment to increase.

The running theory from TEPCO is that the cutting water jet dislodged fuel debris or residues that were detected in the radiation monitoring and air handling systems.

TEPCO loosely hinted that actual inspection work might begin in April with no further details.
