Chernobyl Regains Offsite Power

Chernobyl has regained offsite power per the IAEA. The IAEA also made an announcement that Chernobyl staff were no longer carrying out repair and maintenance of safety-related equipment due to burnout and exhaustion. They have been captive at the site for 18 days. Ukraine’s nuclear regulator stated that “fire season” is upcoming and expressed concern about the Russian occupation of the exclusion zone and the inability of fire fighting forces to work there. Fires in the evacuation zone release radioactivity into the air as trees and brush burns.
