Framing Around Unit 1 Complete: Time-lapse Video

The presence of the TEPCO live webcam of the Daiichi site has allowed us to watch the slow process of building the sarcophagus/shroud around Reactor Unit 1.  You can see the progress to date in the photo.  If you click it, the link is to the original hi-res image.

There are two videos in this post, one shows how the frame is designed and assembled, but since it’s more special interest, it’s at the bottom of the post.

The other, now that the last piece of the frame has been laid, is a remarkable time-lapse video of the entire process, compiled September 1st to 10th from the TEPCO livecam video, then collapsed into 4:39. 

Although the video’s central attraction is the construction, it’s also a time-lapse of these ten days on the Daiichi site: the sun, rain, clouds, wind and the sporadic movements of workers and cranes.
