Recent Quake May Prevent 3rd Reactor From Being Built At North Anna

The Blue Ridge Defense League filed a request with the Atomic Safety Licensing Board asking them to block a potential new reactor at North Anna in Virginia. The group cited the recent quake as grounds for preventing the new reactor. The nuclear station sits directly over a fault line. Dominion power is claiming that the new plant will have higher seismic standards as reason the region should risk housing a nuclear reactor on a fault line. Dominion was fined in the 1970’s for falsifying information to cover up the fault line under units 1 and 2.

The ASLB has granted the group’s request to intervene in the licensing process.
