TEPCO recently released more images inside unit 4. The photos are to explain their theory that unit 3 spewed hydrogen into unit 4 causing it to later explode. The images show places where the air handling system took significant damage and may have been the start point of blasts in those areas. If this is the true case of unit 4’s explosion it creates renewed concern about why unit 3 was so much worse than the melt downs at the other units. The blast was much larger and a 2 stage blast and it may have also generated enough hydrogen to blow up a second unit (unit 4).
One thing noticeable in the images is that the floors are heavily damaged in may places where the upper or lower floor concrete is blown away or heavily cracked. Thick concrete walls have cracks in them or paint peeling originating from seams in the concrete walls indicating there could be cracks or damage at those seams. When concrete and rebar of floors and supporting columns are compromised it adds to building instability indicating that unit 4 may be having issues larger than the leaning outside walls.
Cryptome has large format versions of the images.
