Sonoda Drinking Water Stunt, Not Quite The Risk Implied

Cabinet secretary Sonoda in what played out like a school yard dare, drank what was claimed to be water out of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant. This strange stunt has been all over the media. What isn’t clearly mentioned is that the water that came from the basement of units 5 and 6. TEPCO has previously claimed this water collecting in the basements of units 5 and 6 was ground water infiltration.

The plant does have a known need for ground water to be continuously pumped out of building basements during normal operation. The water being pumped out of units 5 and 6 has been considered low level radioactive water and was frequently being transferred to the mega float . TEPCO’s ongoing reports show this. There was also no verification the water came from Daiichi and to our knowledge nobody tested the water for radiation. If Sonoda wants to really take a dare he could drink a glass of the post treatment water from reactors 1-4, but it would not be recommended.
