NRC Assisted German Private Sector Nuclear Industry In Fighting German Government Shutdowns

Enformable has been working on an ongoing investigation of the NRC’s actions in response to the Fukushima nuclear disaster. In part of this research they
pointed out the NRC’s actions related to Germany’s decision to phase out their nuclear power program.

The German nuclear industry group GRS went to both the NRC and the NEA (a US nuclear industry group) and asked them for help in lobbying to combat the German
governments plan to phase out nuclear power.

This action by the NRC to try to manipulate and work against the plans of another countries government appears to not just be way outside of their jurisdiction but completely
outside of their mandate. The NRC is quick to try to remind people that their mission is to assure public safety and to regulate nuclear power in the US. For this agency to
turn around and work against the government of another country to specifically cheer lead and assist private sector corporations goes against their stated purpose.

So far nothing is being done to investigate this incident or how many others like this the NRC has done.
