Flying Wind Turbines And Power Generating Onsen

These are the kinds of power generation technologies that come from more creative minds. Japanese onsen (hot spring spas) are now being seen as a possible power source, without interrupting the water supply to the spas. A micro-generator is used to harness the energy from the water as it passes through. A number of Japanese companies are now making these units that are as big as 250 kW.

A California inventor has developed a prototype flying wind turbine. The small wing can be quickly deployed or taken down and moved where needed. A larger version could potentially generate a considerable amount of electricity with a fraction of the construction and materials involved in traditional wind turbines.

Both of these show how innovation can change the idea of power generation in considerable ways. H/T to Keven Meyerson for both articles.
