The prefectural government in Fukushima terminated an exposure study of local residents. They said the study “might fuel concern among residents”.
Hirosaki University ‘s Radiation Emergency Medicine institute began the study last April and was to survey more than 100 people. The government terminated the study after 62 survey’s were conducted.
This study may sound familiar and the details show why the local government terminated it in a panic.
The testing was done in April 2011 but none of the findings were made public until March 2012
Residents found with as high as 89 millisieverts equivalent dose to the thyroid.
5 residents had an equivalent dose to the thyroid exceeding 50 millisieverts.
Half of residents had an equivalent dose to the thyroid of 10 millisieverts or less.
Iodine 131 exposure was recorded in 80% of the small group of people tested.
These results were considerably higher than the national government testing.
