Entergy Locks Out Nuclear Plant Workers, Replacement Workers Show Incompetent Mess Inside The Plant

Entergy, corporate owner of the Pilgrim Nuclear Plant has been fighting the plant workers union over the health plan and working conditions at the plant. Entergy’s solution to the union’s request for safe and sane working conditions was to intimidate then lock out all the workers at the nuclear power plant. This includes all the technicians and plant operators, those that know the plant and are the people who make sure it runs safely.

Entergy has brought in replacement workers, likely from other facilities Entergy owns. The replacement workers are being pressed to do work they are not trained for and at least one worker has complained that they are not familiar with the plant. This is an obvious safety issue when nobody at the plant is familiar with the processes and procedures needed to safely run the nuclear reactor.

Not only has Entergy abused the union workers and locked them out of the plant, they are busy abusing the replacement workers. When replacement workers have complained about crossing the picket line or conditions at the plant they have been told if they quit they won’t be able to collect unemployment. Workers were also lied to about the nature of the strike, they were told the workers went on strike, not that Entergy had locked them out. The replacement workers were also lied to about accommodations. They are now being forced to sleep at the plant, a local attorney has filed a complaint as this violates local zoning laws.

A US nuclear plant is currently being operated by replacement workers who are there under duress, in unfamiliar working conditions and forced to sleep at the plant. The only reason for this is Entergy’s hubris and greed. It puts the public at great risk for an accident.
