Japan Groups Asking For International Input On Noda Appointment Of New Nuclear Agency
Friends Of The Earth – Japan is asking anyone in Japan or outside of Japan to sign this petition they will be delivering to Prime Minister Noda.
The new issue related to the new nuclear agency that was supposed to replace the current one (NISA). NISA was blamed as part of the disaster for being too entrenched in the interests of the nuclear companies and as part of the “nuclear village” where actual regulation was impossible. The solution was supposed to be a new agency of impartial experts to regulate the nuclear industry.
Prime Minister Noda then selected candidates that almost all come from the same “nuclear village” responsible for the problems blamed for the disaster at Daiichi. When the national Diet would not approve appointments of these people Noda decided to use his executive power and appoint them without anyone else’s approval. FOE Japan and a number of other groups are trying to put pressure on PM Noda to not do this. These industry insider appointments would put back in charge the same people who caused the situation in the first place.
FOE Japan is asking anyone outside Japan to please sign their petition and share it with others quickly to gather signatures in time to present them to the Prime Minister’s office. Below is a screen shot of an English translation of the petition to aid filling it out. The last checkbox in the list is for those outside of Japan. First field is your name, last checkbox for out of country, next box is for your address (you can put just your country) and last box for any comments you wish to leave. Button on the bottom left sends the petition signature. More can be found on the FOE website here in Japanese: http://hinan-kenri.cocolog-nifty.com/blog/2012/09/58-fd9b.html
