Japan May Limit Nuclear Fuel Reprocessing
After missing a deadline to outline their future plan for Japan’s plutonium stockpile the AEC has announced a possible change in how Japan deals with their spent fuel.
Japan has been pushed heavily by the US to reprocess all nuclear fuel and use the plutonium in either MOX fuel or in the experimental Monju fast breeder reactor (that still sits idle after the last big failure).
Now the government committee has suggested that reprocessing should only commence once it becomes clear the plutonium will be used in power reactors.
