Mainichi Exposes Widespread Nuclear Dark Money In Japan
In a trio of articles Mainichi has exposed even more widespread dark money influence into groups assumed by the public to be altruistic or benign issue groups.
In one they explain how a non profit “forum” group with hints of consumer advocacy actually received significant funding and contracts from the nuclear power industry and industry cooperative groups aimed at convincing the public to accept nuclear power.
Yet another pair of supposed “volunteer” groups were PR front groups staffed by the nuclear power industry. These groups had deep ties into the government and academia. The two groups were behind the staged viewer questions sent to a TV show discussing nuclear power on behalf of Kyushu Electric. They also sent celebrities to stump for nuclear power and influence though chamber of commerce groups.
Another supposed “housewives group” doing a children’s puppet show presentation was actually staffed by women working for a PR group hired by TEPCO. This group did the presentation prolifically all over Japan convincing children of the supposed need for nuclear power.
Similar groups show up in the US and elsewhere such as CASEnergy, pretending to be a “clean energy” group but are front groups for the nuclear industry.
