NRA Begins Inspections, JAPCO Defies NRA Orders

The NRA has begun their process to review applications to restart nuclear reactors in Japan. Utilities will be required to prove them meet the new standards before a reactor restart will be considered.

JAPCO is continuing to insist that the active fault under the Tsuruga nuclear plant isn’t active. NRA has already declared the fault to be active, but says if convincing evidence is given they would consider reversing their decision. Meanwhile JAPCO is refusing to submit a report on the safety of spent fuel at the plant related to the impact of the fault in an earthquake.

Japan’s nuclear utilities have already been criticized for behaving as if nothing has changed. JAPCO proves that continues to be the case.
