Poor TEPCO! Upset That News Media Reported Fuel Cask Transfer

U4fueltransferNov21_2013 TEPCO sent out this press release today complaining about the press, for reporting news. Kyodo News and possibly others flew helicopters over Fukushima Daiichi during the fuel cask transfer process. This took place Thursday when the first cask of fuel from unit 4’s spent fuel pool was moved to the common pool building for unloading.

The media has flown helicopter flights over the plant repeatedly to give the public a view of what is going on at the plant and has been one of the few sources of useful data on the disaster. According to TEPCO, this violated Japan’s laws on securing nuclear fuel.

The video and images have been all over the internet. NHK (Japan’s state TV) reported with photos the other day. The still photos have been widely repeated in the international media.

This is not the first time unedited images have been put out on this fuel move. NHK released photos from the press tour before the unit 4 work began showing cask hinges (photo below) that TEPCO had been editing out of photos and video released by the company.
