Will Fukushima Daiichi Be Taken Apart With Lasers?

TWILASER2163A UK company called TWI is developing a laser cutter that could be used to take apart contaminated equipment at nuclear power plants. The high powered lasers are currently used to weld automobile frames. The hand held system allows a worker to reach areas welding robots frequently can not. The system can also be set up on certain robot platforms to to work remotely and can be operated underwater.

We have not seen any formal effort to bring this technology to the decommissioning of Fukushima Daiichi but it certainly has potential to be implemented as one of the tactics as they plan how they will dismantle the plant.
