TEPCO has done test runs with the ultrasound robot intended to detect the water level inside the torus tubes at Fukushima Daiichi. Tests done at unit 5 and unit 4 gave some information about the best way to obtain readings. They did run into issues in unit 4 where there was a thin layer of oil on the water. This caused issues for the sensor and camera. The solution proposed was to use a small jet of air to move the oil away while work was done. Work should be currently underway to attempt this test on the unit 2 torus tube according to TEPCO’s calendar.
