Dr. Robert Jacobs Will Be Speaking At Event In Tokyo July 19th

Nuclear historian at Hiroshima University (and SimplyInfo.org member) Dr. Robert Jacobs will be speaking in Tokyo July 19th at an event at the Lucky Dragon Museum. The museum houses the Lucky Dragon fishing ship, exposed to massive amounts of radiation during the US Castle Bravo nuclear test. The crew returned to Japan sick from radiation exposure, some of the crew died. The ship eventually made it impossible for the US to deny the impact of the bomb tests in the Pacific.

The upcoming event explores the impact of atomic testing on specific populations and the larger world. The event is open to the public, running from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the International Conference Hall at Meiji Gakuin University in Tokyo.

Background on the history of atomic testing and the Lucky Dragon can be found here.
Dr. Jacobs also has a new publication in the Asia Pacific Journal, “Radiation as Cultural Talisman: Nuclear Weapons Testing and American Popular Culture in the Early Cold War
