Fukushima Disaster Causes Nuclear Workers To Flee To Solar, Creates New Robotic Industry
Workers for TEPCO have been leaving at a rapid pace. Between cuts in pay and the social stigma of working for the company, many have chosen to leave. What is more interesting is how many have left the nuclear industry all together and are now working for new solar power companies. This could become an even larger trend as other nuclear power utilities see their businesses flounder.
The disaster has also caused a drastic shift in focus among the robotics industry. DARPA challenges this year will be focused on scenarios similar to the Fukushima Disaster where robots that can meet these kinds of challenges would stand to win. Robots that can work in challenging environments and with more of a general disaster focus are becoming the new areas of research.
