Last Hiroshima Bomb Crewman Dies
Theodore Van Kirk died the 29th in a retirement home in the US at age 93. He was the last of the crew of the Enola Gay that dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. In a 2005 interview Van Kirk advocated for abolishing nuclear weapons.
Another of the crew appeared in a TV episode of This Is Your Life in the 1950’s that featured a doctor known to have helped many of the victims of the Hiroshima bombing. A number of the women the doctor helped also appeared on the episode in what is probably one of the most surreal moments in TV.
