3 TEPCO Executives To Stand Trial For Fukushima Disaster

A citizen inquest panel has determined that 3 TEPCO executives and possibly a 4th should stand trial for their decision to not take steps to protect the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant from tsunamis. The company had known about the risk for years and had taken action to prevent regulators from requiring them to make changes at the plant.

The prosecution declined to prosecute anyone previously. The inquest requires the prosecution to reconsider trying the four. If the prosecution declines to do this the inquest can decide again that they require trial. Then the prosecution will be required to take them to trial. A citizens group lead by Rukio Muto are plaintiffs in the case.
