New Robot Inspection Of Fukushima Unit 1
Two robots, sponsored by IRID conducted an investigation of unit 1. The areas between the 2nd and 3rd floors have radiation levels too high for humans to enter for any extended period of time. Robots Rosemary and Sakura were sent in to do a coordinated inspection.
Rosemary is equipped with a newer type of gamma camera to record radiation readings. Sakura provides additional views of the other robot and acts as a wireless transmission station.
The videos of the work showed areas mostly has seen elsewhere in the unit. Considerable small debris, some water staining and blast damage. They did pass through what appears to be the Standby Gas Treatment System room. IRID didn’t release any other details about the work.
