TEPCO Restarts Fukushima Unit 5 Pool Cooling Without Permanent Fix

140707_04TEPCO has announced they have restarted the cooling system for unit 5 just days after stopping it due to a valve body leak. TEPCO mentions in this handout of the restart but there is no permanent fix mentioned as being completed or proposed.

Earlier reports said TEPCO would suspend the system until they could determine a permanent fix. Apparently some patch on a cracked valve is now considered a permanent fix.

Temps in the spent fuel continue to climb. This graph pulled from TEPCO hourly data showed unit 5’s spent fuel pool has yet to begin reducing.
