Radioactive Spike In Norwegian Reindeer & Sheep
Annual testing of sheep and reindeer for cesium 137 contamination found an abrupt spike this year. Ongoing testing still finds considerable amounts of radioactive contamination throughout Europe in mushrooms, wild berries, game and field grazing livestock.
Earlier this year we reported on the wide variety of commercial jam products still contaminated with cesium 137, thought to be mostly from Chernobyl.
Researchers are assuming the spike in contamination in Norway is due to a bumper wild mushroom season. That eating these mushrooms may have caused the animals to see such high levels.
