TEPCO Declares Effort To Drain Fukushima Daiichi Unit 2 Trench Futile
TEPCO drained 200,000 liters of water out of the unit 2 trench after they declared the end near the turbine building to be sealed. After the water level only went down a fraction of the level they assumed it should have, they declared that the water must be coming from somewhere else. Where they don’t seem to know. The new plan is to now fill the trench in with concrete while drawing water out of it. This could solve the problem or could just cause the leaking contaminated water to just take another route. This new tactic could have been done back in 2011 when the highly radioactive leak was first discovered days after the meltdowns.
